There can be no doubt that the passing of Liam Lawlor this weekend was untimely and a huge tragedy for his long suffering family.
But you have to admit the whole incident is very curious indeed. Lawlor goes to his grave now with the secrets of many tucked away with him. The Planning Tribunal cannot hope to be able to uncover exactly what took place in this country in regards to anomalies in planning and building in the 1980's and 1990's

I totally agree with what you did so well avoiding actually saying.
I reckon he's with Robert Maxwell and Lord Lucan playing poker.
Anyone think there's any truth the rumour that he was knocked off??
It's been a bizarre weekend - there may well be more to this story than appears to have been the case but I wonder whether the Sindo, Observer et. al. are sitting nervously at their solcitors' tables awaiting being sued. If not, they probably should be
Honestly my first reaction was that he must have been. Money, fraud, deception and lies and an unnatural end it's like a James Bond movie!
If he is in a poker game with those boys JL I personally wouldn't be interested in buying but would love to be a fly on the wall!
You'llhave to forgive me, but before this I'd never heard of him. So my question is, what did he get up to?? And as to my second question, to quote JL, I'm now totally curious as to what was actually avoided in the saying? Curiouser and curiouser.
It's a very long and complicated story involving alleged bribes in brown envelopes which were meant to procure the rezoning of land for the building of high profile properties such as Liffey Valley for example. Lawlor was jailed by the tribuanl 3 times as it did not believe he was complying fully with the investigation and that he was not providing transparent statements of account. The tribunal is still on going.
